Tell us a little about you…

I live in Tarporley with my Husband Matt, our two daughters, Amelie and Charlotte, and Barney the cockapoo.

I originally grew up in Warrington before heading off to university in London to study law and train to become a solicitor, which was without doubt, the hardest thing I’ve ever done! I worked in London for a few years, until I met my Husband, and shortly after, I relocated back to Warrington. We moved to Tarporley in 2010, which all happened very quickly, but was absolutely the right decision. We absolutely love living here! I decided to take a career break so I could be at home with the girls’ full time, and needless to say I haven’t returned to the legal profession since!

In my spare time I like to keep active. I started running about 7 years ago and became slightly addicted – I love that sense of achievement you feel after a run. But it has to be outside… unless it’s torrential rain! I have also recently returned to playing tennis, having not played in a while. I started at a young age – with my Dad being fanatical about tennis and having a tennis club within a stones throw of our back garden, I had no choice really! I also love walking, shopping, eating out, holidays, cooking, reading, and of course practicing yoga.

Why did you decide to become a Yoga teacher?

After many years of practicing, and noticing how much it transformed both my physical and emotional well being, I was eager to deepen my knowledge with a view to maybe teaching classes of my own. After many should I, shouldn’t I moments, I decided to take the plunge and enrolled on an 18-month yoga teacher-training course with Yogacampus in Manchester. This definitely challenged me in ways I’d never experienced before, as it was something completely different, and so pushed me hugely out of my comfort zone. It was such an amazing experience and I met so many lovely people. It made me realise that there is so much more to yoga than being a form of exercise. I remember one of my teachers saying, “yoga is a work-in, not a work-out”, which is so true. It’s all about that mind, body, and breath connection which makes it so unique and different to any other form of exercise.

What do you love about being a Yoga instructor at Instinct?

What I didn’t realise when I started this journey was how rewarding teaching a yoga class would be. Seeing my students leave my class feeling more calm and grounded or less stressed than when they came through the door really does make my day. Everyone is so lovely at Instinct and you are made to feel very welcome here, there is a real sense of community. I also love that my students genuinely look out for each other, and have become really good friends through Instinct.

What is your favourite Yoga pose?

It has to be tree pose (vrksasana in sanskrit). I love the balance challenge, and the concentration required in this pose. It’s such a great achievement when you can finally do it.

What is your least favourite exercise?

Burpees – they are evil!

What drives you?

Learning something new, or challenging myself to try new things. Even when the thought of it terrifies me.

A quote to live by…

“Never look back and regret, look back and smile at what you have learned”

What is your favourite treat?

Having a nice massage or even better, a spa day!
