Meet Jamie, Instinct’s newest addition to the RIDE team. Jamie will be taking RIDE 9AM Monday and Wednesday 6PM in the studio…
After training in London at a top musical theatre school and in some of the capital’s coolest gyms, I put a pandemic pause to the worlds of performing and fitness coaching for the incredible world of television. I’ve just spent the summer working on the Commonwealth Games, ITV Soccer Aid and BBC European Championships. Supporting trackside, speaking to, and witnessing the performances of some world’s greatest athletes’ and their energy triggered a gear-change in my own life and what’s my why. I thought, above everything and any career, if we could all be this fit and this energetic, the world will be a mega place.
I returned home to Cheshire with my two border terriers and an absolute mission to bring the London indoor cycling vibe to Tarporley! So, if I’m not in that ride studio teaching with absolute pizazz, I’m often out trail running, riding my mountain bike on the Welsh hills or hitting the gym myself.
In Japan, they call it ‘Ikigai’ – The ‘why’ behind why you get up in the morning? What do you love, what are you good at, what does the world need, and what can you be paid for.
My why is to share the wisdom and the total gear-change I’ve found mentally and physically through exercise with others. I love it, I’d like to say I’m good at it, and I so desperately want others to feel it.
Back in 2018, my mental health was on the floor. Anxiety and depression racing. I’ve found absolute growth, saviour, and inspiration by transforming myself in the gym and by showing up to indoor cycling classes. To me it’s been my therapy and made me into the Jamie I am today. It’s my absolute passion to share the energy of exercise with you so hopefully you can feel the same!
Creating an experience, as opposed to just leading a class. To get a studio on a beat and dancing away on a bike where they lose themselves in the moves, beat drops and sprint surges. It is a special thing. I crave this energy. Here for the vibes. Always.
I’m a ride instructor, so it has got to be those euphoric choreo tracks right?
I think it’s magic how uplifted and alive these style of rides can make you feel on a random blustery Wednesday in November.
Stretching.
After the ballet days, one more plie might finish me off. I do like to stretch properly for good counts, so being patient and learning to sit and breathe through a proper cool down takes discipline, which I’m continually working on!
Gratitude. Each morning before I leave my bed I say 5,4,3,2,1 in my head, affirm “today is going to be a good day” and jump to it. Every day is a gift. Instead of pounds, the legend that is Jay Shetty made me realise 86,4000 seconds are deposited into our bank every day. Let’s make the most of it and feel rich in the time we have on this earth.
“The Trouble is you think you have time” (Buddha, Jack Kornfield).
Life is short, tomorrow is not given. There is not a ‘later you’ who will eventually find the time to exercise or a later day to go after what you want. Don’t take your time on this earth for granted. The time is now.
An Aldi Protein Pudding. Gosh, they are top of their tier. Go grab one and join the hype!
But also treats don’t just have to be in the form of food; rewarding myself with an adventure day in the hills or a paddleboarding sesh is glorious too!
Get started with Instinct in Tarporley.
